Tribal Tourism in Central India:

Tribal tourism' as defined by Terry Ward, journalist and travel writer, is “a new form of travel in which tourists visit tribal villages in order to be exposed to a culture completely different from their own.

Indigenous Tourism can be defined as a tourism activity in which Indigenous people are directly involved either through control and/or by having their culture serve as the essence of the attraction. Aboriginal (cultural) tourism describes all tourism businesses that are owned or operated by.

There are 46 recognized Scheduled Tribes in Madhya Pradesh, India, three of which have been identified as 'Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups' (PTGs) (formerly known as 'Special Primitive Tribal Groups').

Tribal Tours in India

From the peaceful Central India to marvelous Madhya Pradesh, the tribal population of India has so far managed to preserve their prehistoric rituals, customs and culture even in today’s modern world. The population of tribal people in India alone represents about eight per cent of the country’s total population. As a result, you can still get the glimpse of rich culture and traditions of an ancient India in those tribal regions and have an unforgettable experience you haven’t had before.

Even today, every Indian tribal group holds an inheritance of traditions, which are deeply rooted in their culture and lifestyle. It will take you away from the chaos of the city and town to the calm and peaceful place where people still believe in living a simple life just like their ancestors do. The Indian civilization is one of the oldest in the world. You can still find the remains of this oldest civilization in the primeval places of the country and explore more about the culture, traditions, rituals, customs and lifestyle of the India tribal people.

The diversity in the tribes across the state comes from differences in heredity, lifestyle, cultural traditions, social structure, economic structure, religious beliefs and language and speech. Due to the different linguistic, cultural and geographical environments, the diverse tribal world of Madhya Pradesh has been largely cut off from the mainstream of development.

Madhya Pradesh holds 1st rank among all the States/Union Territories (UTs) in terms of Special Tribal population and 12th rank in respect of the proportion of ST population to total population

The main tribal groups in Madhya Pradesh are Gond, Bhil, Baiga, Korku, Bhariya, Halba, Kaul, Mariya, and Sahariya. Dhar, Jhabua and Mandla districts have a more than 50 percent tribal population. In Khargone, Chhindwara, Seoni, Sidhi and Shahdol districts, 30 to 50 percent of the population is of tribes.

Embark on an incredible journey to the tribal places in Madhya Pradesh and have a close view of the long-standing culture and traditions of the country, which continues to persevere in its primitive surroundings.

It has been said, “nothing destroys culture faster than poverty”. Tourism is a viable solution for boosting the local economy and supporting local pride and creativity.

  • Tribal members can develop businesses that include traditional practices.
  • Tribal members can create a home-based economy to provide the tribal members the opportunity to work in the local area and stay close to family and traditions.

Note: We organize Tribal and Village Tours in Madhya Pradesh based on principles of Responsible or sustainable Tourism. The packages are with the very basic amenities but close to culture and tradition of rural India.

As our responsibility towards the society and country we offer many Tour plan designed keeping Responsible and Sustainable Tourism in mind. When you take a responsible holiday you are ensuring that the money you spend stays locally, which might mean staying in a family owned lodge on the edge of a river, instead of a multinational chain behind gates. Discovering diverse eateries which not only source their food close to home but also celebrate local cuisine as part of their culture. This might be in a remote Tribal area in India like Jhabua, Dhar, Barwani, a Valley in dense Forest known as Patalkot in Tamia Thesil or near to Kanha National Park in Mandla or going river rafting, Jungle Walk or fishing with a local people.
